Teaching Philosophies

Piano Teacher in Downtown Toronto

Andrea’s Guiding Principles

1. STUDENTS THRIVE IN A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

I aim to create a safe and respectful space for learning and to nurture students’ sense of well-being and growth.

2. TO TEACH PIANO IS TO PROVIDE A HOLISTIC EDUCATION.

In addition to teaching how to play the piano, I aim to provide a well-rounded music education which includes the systematic development of musicianship, problem solving and creative thinking skills.

3. EVERY STUDENT IS UNIQUE.

I aim to tailor my teaching to each student’s unique learning needs and goals. More specifically, the pacing of my lessons and the selection of pieces are carefully planned to suit the individual.

Andrea’s Teaching Style

1. STUDENT CENTERED.

I encourage students to engage in their lessons, to take initiative in their own piano learning, and to express their individuality.

2. FLEXIBLE.

I first listen carefully to what my students communicate to me. Then I direct learning accordingly through a combination of structured plans and spontaneity.

3. FRESH.

l make a conscious effort to incorporate digital tech, repertoire by underrated and emerging composers, and relevant ideas from music education research and music performance practice into my teaching.
